Establiments sits at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana. The Carretera d'Esporles that runs through it is also the boundary between flat Mallorca and the mountains: from here, the ground starts to climb. That's why the village is the trailhead for several walks — the best-known being the Camí des Correu — and the destination for hikers walking down from Esporles or Valldemossa.
What follows are the three routes that start in or pass through Establiments. All three are doable year-round; in July and August, leave before nine and carry more water than you think you need.
Camí des Correu (GR-221, Establiments → Esporles)
- Difficulty
- Moderate
- Time
- 2.5 h
- Distance
- ~6.5 km
- Elevation
- +220 m
The old postal road between Palma and Esporles, restored as a stage of the GR-221 (Ruta de Pedra en Sec). It leaves the centre of Establiments, climbs through olive groves, crosses the Coll de Sa Creu, and drops down into Esporles. Stone-paved sections, pine shade, and the original mail-coach track still visible in places. The most-walked path in the area, and the one that brings the most hikers into the village for lunch.
Son Berga circuit (loop from Establiments)
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 1.5 h
- Distance
- ~4 km
- Elevation
- +90 m
A gentle loop through the old fincas of Son Berga, northeast of the village. Olive groves, a ruined hermitage, views back to the Serra. Family-friendly, perfect when you want to stretch your legs without committing to a serious climb. Well-marked on the way out, slightly fainter on the descent — bring a map.
Establiments → Sa Granja (via Esporles)
- Difficulty
- Hard
- Time
- 4 h
- Distance
- ~12 km
- Elevation
- +520 m
Combines the Camí des Correu to Esporles with the climb up to the Sa Granja farm-museum. Long, real elevation, and the option to bus back from Esporles if your legs give up. Start early in summer. [TODO: link Wikiloc GPX].
After the trail — Restaurant Es Muntant
The Camí des Correu runs past the front door of Es Muntant. Any hiking map of the area will tell you so — SendrosdeMallorca and Click Mallorca among others — and so will anyone who's done the walk and finished it on the terrace with their boots still on. If you come down from the mountain hungry, we recommend the variat mallorquí (eight tapas on one plate), a frito mallorquín with lamb, or one of our nine pa amb oli variants. Food meant to put you back together, not to impress you.
Boot rack near the door, water for refilling bottles, and the kitchen open until 16:00 (grill until 16:30). Sundays we serve the full menu.
